Eagle and Dove Portraits

Sometimes the little bird flies low, lured in by the appearance of gentleness, and lowers her wings.  Her vulnerability is meant to be a gift, but quickly she realizes her mistake and she must turn from dove to eagle and fly up higher, higher, where the air is pure and she can breathe in and out like she needs…How she craves the oxygen of the mountain of God!  Higher still, higher still until she comes to a crevice in the rock where she takes her rest, and smoothes her feathers.  She notices a few are missing after that last squirmish, “but they will grow back,” she assures herself.
There in her hidden refuge she begins to sing and the mountains reverberate with the sound.  One sound calls to another sound.  It is caught upon the wind and transformed into a masterpiece and the ‘lonely place’ becomes a place of symphonies and choirs.  The eagle rests while the dove sings and becomes renewed in the atmosphere of His love.
Dove drinks and is revived by water from the rock.  She stays in this place for hours, knowing that, in a little while, she must return for a time to the lower levels of trial and burden.  Wiser now, and newly reminded of what she already knew, she gathers the strength she will need to to stay behind her eagle armor and above the vultures, not below them.  Her wings must hide her face and not expose it; vulnerability must never foolishness become.
Her eagle cry is heard as she flies down through the altitudes and positions herself upon a branch.  There she firmly plants her feet, one last reprieve until her script requires her to walk once more in robes of patience and longsuffering; in common halls amid the tethered trees.  That is…until the branch of forced compliance is broken and “at last, at last” she freely flies away – in light of promised day.
Gabriel blows his trumpet.  Do you hear it little eagle?  Eagle cries out such strong, powerful sound.  Yes, eagle hears it.  For that trumpet is also in eagle’s mouth.  And that is why she cannot keep quiet.  She must cry out what she was born to SHOUT!  But perhaps her forced compliance is only for a day, and serves as a tool of training “For He was led like a Lamb to the slaughter and did not open His mouth.”  “But one day,” says the Eagle, I will be free to cry out with all the sounds that are pent up inside of me, waiting like a flood, like a river of many colors to be released and streak the sky with colored banners amidst praises of the Holy One.”
“One day I will sing, not in lonely places in hidden hideaways, but before all the ones who tried to silence me.  Yes, I will sing with His trumpet of judgment in my mouth, and I will proclaim, “Fallen!  Fallen is babylon the great!”  Ha!
Breath of God, breathe on me.  For I am Your reclining tree, and You hear me, Yes, You hear me, and You deliver when I call.  Amen.

Musing: Isn't there more to Christmas?

So my antagonistic + nerdy friend (who will so finish me after reading this), in a very recent conversation asked this question. It got me writing...

Isn't there more to Christmas?
More to it than chiming bells,
Stockings hung, turkeys and mistletoe.
Snow bathed trees, Harmathan and dusty decors.

Isn't there more to Christmas?
more to it than the yearly tradition
Same slow sacred hymns
nativity scenes and a child with the halo

So what's more to Christmas?
what's more than the Spirit of love
and true cheer with friends and family
What's more than spreading word of the Savior's birth
in a weary world, with sin and error pinning

So what's more to Christmas?
What's more than Holidays and family time
Time when everyone comes home
with all this cheer, no one is alone
Is there more to love?

I'd say there isn't - Love is all.
There's not one like that
one shiny star seen from near and far.
He just makes it new
and so it evolves yearly.

Playlist: Yuletide hymns.

My love for hymns, poetic songs and of course, carols have not diminished one bit, as a matter of fact, it is in top gear this season. And i would sing a Christmas hymn, instead of a contemporary Christmas song.

What I like most about carols is not just the lovely tunes, but even more importantly, the poetic and sacred lyrics that warms the heart about the saviour's love.

Let's note that not all carols are popular in this side of the world, but let me share 5 of my favourite Yuletide hymns with you.

5. O come O come Emmanuel.

I LOVE verse 3 that says: O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer our spirits by Thine advent here. Disperse the gloomy clouds of night. And death's dark shadows put to flight. Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel. Shall come to thee, O Israel.

So I love this Verse, and I sing it over and over again like I don't need the next! This Hymn calls Him "Emmanuel", "Rod of Jesse", "Day-Spring", "Key of David" and "Lord 'of Might".

4. Oh! Holy night

Every mezzo wants to sing Mariah Carey's version, but as a hymn they ignore the sacred words it carries. All these verses hold serene words brimming with depths. A vivid insight into that night, the night Christ was born.

Take your time, sing, and Selah... Back to Bethlehem.

3. Little Drummer Boy

So this hymn that sings a story of a little boy who has no gift to bring save his little drum playing pa rum pum pum pum. So Mary nodded, the ox and lamb kept time while he played his best. Until he smiled at him. hahaha.. This upbeat hymn I like to sing, even post Christmas. And trust me Mandisa's version is not keeping my calm.

2. Hark the Herald Angel Sings

To me, this hymn has 5 verses, and that's because I sing the third verse 3 times. Help your soul and do same. The words are everything.

1. Silent Night

As old as 1816, the "stille nacht" as fresh on our lips and in our hearts as ever, like it's newly written.
These words i hold dear: Son of God, love's pure lightradiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace...wondrous star, lend thy light; with the angels let us sing, Alleluia to our King...

My soul is full already. Christ is indeed beautiful. He makes the finest songs ever  sung. Try having a personal hymn time and selah, worship. You'll see...please share your experiences if you so please.

Oh! and last year, i shared a Christmas playlist, here.

Blessings! & Merry Christmas!

A Glorious Tale

A GLORIOUS TALE

Scorners will keep jeering
Winners will keep cheering
As glory keeps steering
In the heart of those awaiting His appearing

He didn’t come for shame
Neither did He for fame
But for His reign and love He came
All glory be to His name

There is nothing free under the sun
He even paid the price with His son
His only son, not two but one
I’m not making fun, let sinners turn to Him

Wise men wondered as they wandered
As they pondered on who or what He may be
Herod’s blunder couldn’t temper with His majesty
He’s alive till eternity

From inn to inn they journeyed
Through ails and travail
Wise men sheepishly trailing the star
As they earnestly sought the Morning Star

Could He have been born in a manger?
The star, their pager gave its answer
As it stood still over the roof of its maker
They approached His place to pay homage

The stench and bleats of sheep, mhe mhe
His cry of joy loudly heard whe, whe
Hearts lift as they affirmed His existence
In turns they bowed with gold, myrrh and frankincense

Hark of herald angels sing!
No more silent night!
Come all ye faithful!
Joy to the world for His birth!

Hosanna in the highest
Of those ever born, He is the greatest
Our king and saviour is born, the fairest
All hail King Jesus

The king of Kings
Lord of all Lords
He is not just a man
He is the Lord of all

Article: Anointing and Artistry

Our God is an amazing Creator. Not only did He make the heavens and the earth—everything that is seen and unseen—but He also instilled these creative abilities in us.

Like our Father, we get excited when we get to be creative. From the two-year-old with a chubby red crayon in front of a bright white wall to the twenty-two-year-old student with reams of fabric and several colorful sketches, to the person at the potter’s wheel, to the mom stippling paint onto the canvas—our ability to create comes from Almighty God.

Stories, inventions, sonnets, symphonies, screenplays, furniture, and even jewelry are inspired by the One with all inspiration. Like our Father, we are able to take what was once an idea and bring it into reality.

Not only did God give us the desire and ability to create, but He has blessed it. The One who gives all good gifts is also the One who inspires, enables, and blesses the work of our hands.

“And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.” (Ps. 90:17)

Our ability to create is not just an additional aspect of who we are, but an attribute the Lord gives for us to use and show forth His glory. One clear example from the Bible is recorded in Exodus. After the Israelites left Egypt, God spoke to Moses in extreme detail about His desire for His tabernacle. Not only did God know how He desired the tabernacle to look, but He knew the exact people He had given the skill to in order to complete the project.

“Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:  ‘See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship. And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you.’” (Ex. 31:1–6)

God thinks highly of those with artistic gifts. He didn’t give us creative talent as an arbitrary addition to our lives. The Lord, who could have blessed us with any myriad of talents, specifically chose the talents and skills we have in order to build His kingdom, bring enjoyment to our lives, and glorify Himself.

Unfortunately, out of fear, we sometimes keep our creative talents hidden or share them with only a select few people. This is understandable. In our society, many creative people can have talent, a unique perspective, finely-honed skill, and something worth saying, but they encounter a constant barrage of criticism and negative feedback, which makes the idea of creating and sharing their personal work seem daunting.

However, the One who has the first and last word in our lives, the One who gifted us with creative talent, is the One whose opinion matters the most. His gift may not result in fame, fortune, or man’s approval, but we can rest assured that He wants His creative children to enjoy the gifts He’s given them and truly be successful. In fact, our Father wants us to be successful more than we want success.

It may take some time to remove the discouragement of negative voices and be renewed by the truth the Lord speaks over His children, but this can be done by looking to Him and standing on His Word. When we pursue God’s definition of success, we can encounter moments of applause or rejection without falling into into either pride or grief, because we know our true identity is found in Him alone.

Focus on the Lord

In Genesis 1, we see how God made beautiful things that speak of His character, nature, and capabilities. The Creator knows why He created you, and what books, recipes, song, or drawings you need to produce. He knows what you’re made to do and accomplish in this lifetime. He has an unlimited number of ideas He can put at your disposal. When we take the time to sit and meditate on truth, read His Word, and learn more about who He is, we are able to accurately reflect upon our Father, thus gaining insight and understanding. He is our unending inspiration.

Stand on Truth

Comparison can be a hindrance for many people. The accuser hurls doubt, fear, and lies to bring about discouragement related to a person’s God-given ability and talent. In those times, it’s important to believe the truth that God speaks. Our good Father gives us good ideas, good talents, and good skills. He doesn’t bless us with gifts in order to bring unnecessary challenges into our lives, nor does He want to leave us in a state of discouragement and confusion over our purpose. He has a place for each specific gift to fit into the body of believers. Every gift is an asset that will lead to Him receiving glory.

Musing: Fresh Start!

Leaf through
Till a blank page
One on which you can
Write your own text

Could be a sequel
Perhaps a totally new chapter
Or a different Story
Good news is: it's a fresh Start

                                                       Selah.

So wear the new robe called change
Designed with different colours
One that fits in all sizes.

Wake up to a new dawning
On this path you can walk your own footing
Forgetting the cause you are dreading
The fear of the other side, Or memories haunting
But bless the heavens, it's a fresh start.

                                                     Selah.

Walking down the path of recovery,
we stumble on flashes that hoist
revelations of a troubled yesterday

Not to wallow in ill experiences
Nor muse on wishful scenarios
"Here" is right where you are supposed to be

                                                       Selah.

Love's many graces are new!
Today, we run faster
stretch out our arms farther
Soar high, mingle with the eagles
Alas! it's a fresh start.

This Day the Lord has made,
 He made it for me
The gate pass to a Fresh Start.

                                                       Selah
